The series Hotel Corridors explores the interiors of hotels in an abstract way. Growing up, my mother, my sister and I traveled every summer to a different country and place and ever since that time, I have been fascinated with hotels. Certain hotels can give off strange and uncanny feelings. I am fascinated with the atmosphere in hotel corridors leading up to the room in particular. In this series I tried to explore this strange feeling through many angles, trying to recreate feelings of the experienced uncanny. In addition Haruki Murakami’s novels inspire me greatly. His hotel scenes in Dance Dance Dance, where the character experiences very surreal things in a hotel, had great influence on my work. For the Hotel Corridors series I worked on a smaller scale and on wood panels. I explored the panel's edges as part of the painting surface to create different angles and illusions depending on the viewpoint of the spectator. I wanted to create a feeling of not being able to escape this strange hotel, similar to the atmosphere in the film The Shining.
